bible-a-month club

The Bible Society of South Africa launched its Bible-a-Month Club in July 2001. This club differs from a typical book club where members pay for a book every month. Bible-a-Month Club members pay a monthly amount so that someone else will receive the most precious book of all – the Bible.

Bible-a-Month Club members give a monthly donation to enable the Bible Society to make at least one Bible available to someone at an affordable price. Not only do they help the Bible Society of South Africa produce more Bibles for South Africa, but also for Africa and the world.

Join the Bible-a-Month Club.

Bibles for sailors

For many years the Bible Society has been helping to supply Bibles to the various port missionary organisations which work in our harbours from Richards Bay on the east coast to Saldanha Bay on the west coast.

Thousands of sailors from far and wide who call at our ports often hear about Jesus and his love for the first time from these missionaries. It is also here that many seamen receive a Bible for the first time.

Bibles are needed in hundreds of different languages such as Arabic, Bulgarian, Burmese, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, Tamil, Thai and Vietnamese, to mention but a few.

Since most of these Bibles are imported, they are very expensive. It costs the Bible Society, for example, depending on the exchange rate, R265 to import a Burmese Bible and R120 for a Spanish Bible.

The Bible Society tries to keep the price the mission organisations pay for the Bibles as low as possible. To help with this, R60 000 is needed this year.

Send a missionary. Give a Bible to a sailor.

Pray for:

  • all the harbour mission organisations
  • every sailor who calls at one of our ports and receives a Bible.
