bible-a-month club

The Bible Society of South Africa launched its Bible-a-Month Club in July 2001. This club differs from a typical book club where members pay for a book every month. Bible-a-Month Club members pay a monthly amount so that someone else will receive the most precious book of all – the Bible.

Bible-a-Month Club members give a monthly donation to enable the Bible Society to make at least one Bible available to someone at an affordable price. Not only do they help the Bible Society of South Africa produce more Bibles for South Africa, but also for Africa and the world.

Join the Bible-a-Month Club.

Zulu Bible Translation

Zulu is the largest language group in South Africa. It is the mother tongue of more than 10 million South Africans. The Bible has already been available in Zulu for over a century, but it is a dynamic language which is continually developing.

Changes in the language have led to younger Zulu speakers especially no longer being able to understand everything in the existing Bible because it is not always written in the way Zulu is used today. The science of translation, Bible translation in particular, has also developed and the knowledge of the source texts has expanded a great deal.

These factors all contributed to the churches who use the Zulu Bible requesting the Bible Society to begin a new translation. The work on this translation began in August 2009.

A publication with proof translations of parts of Genesis, Job, Proverbs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Romans and 2 Corinthians was recently published. Readers can submit feedback and in this way assist the translators.

The translators are working long hours to ensure that a good, understandable translation of the complete Bible in contemporary Zulu will be available as soon as possible.

R837 016 is needed for the work to continue in 2012.

Pray for:

  • churches and mission organisations who distribute the Bible through outreach programmes
  • each person who will receive one of these outreach Bibles.
