The purpose of this project is to enable millions of Christians in China, especially those in rural areas, to 
buy an affordable Bible.
Background
In partnership with the Chinese Christian Council and the Amity Press, the United Bible Societies, of which the Bible Society of South Africa is full member, is helping to make Bibles available for the millions of Christians in China.
Bible Societies worldwide, including the Bible Society of South Africa, help with funding to make the necessary Bible paper available. Since the Amity Press in Nanjing, China, began printing Bibles in 1987 more than 54 million Bibles have been printed for distribution in China. It is planned to distribute 3 205 000 among Chinese Christians this year. Nearly R22 million, which includes Bible paper, is needed to make these Bibles available.
The official records state there are 30 million Christians in China but the unofficial estimate is 100 million. Most of these Chinese Christians live in rural areas and are extremely poor. More than 90 million Chinese people survive on the equivalent of one American dollar a day.
The Church in China continues to grow and there is a huge demand for Bibles. Chinese Christians value the Bible highly. For them the Bible is of utmost importance in their daily lives and for them to grow in faith.
Expected impact
- More than 3 million Chinese Christians will receive a copy of the Bible.
- Those who receive a Bible will get to know God better through the Bible message and so be strengthened in their faith.
Budget
The Bible Society of South Africa also contributes towards Bibles for China and for this R380 000 is needed.
