THE BIBLE

Sepedi

Sepedi is the home language of more than 4,6 million South Africans and is mainly spoken in Limpopo and Gauteng.

The first Scripture to be published in Sepedi was the New Testament translated by JFC Knothe of the Berlin Missionary Society and published in 1890. This was followed by the first complete Bible, published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1904.

In 1951 a revised edition of this Bible in a new orthography appeared and in 2000 a new Sepedi Bible translation was published by the Bible Society of South Africa.
